CHAPTER PROJECTS
Alpha Rho participates in a variety of projects that support literacy.
Our members assist the Family Reading Partnership of Chemung Valley by sorting gently used and new books, distributing them to young people who visit the Little Red Bookshelf at a local farmers’ market and at Picnic in the Parks. We chair and participate in Strong Kids, Safe Kids, which is held at the Chemung County Fairgrounds each year. Many of our members also read to daycare children each month in the Traveling Books program.
One of our members is chairperson for the annual Book Fest and other members assist in this project.
Our members volunteer at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in various capacities.
We collaborate with the Southern Tier Reading Partnership and our local chapter of AAUW.
We are represented on the Chemung County Council of Women.
Alpha Rho sponsors three Grants-In-Aid and two Scholarships to assist both future teachers and our members who are still actively teaching.
At each meeting, we have a raffle and 100% of the proceeds have gone to support the Early Childhood Consortium, the Chemung Valley Historical Society, and Head Start in recent years. Our proceeds for the last few years have supported the Southern Tier Food Bank’s Backpack Program and Scholarship funds.
The members of Alpha Rho work hard to provide support where there is a need within our community.
